In Literacy Year 4 have been looking at imaginary worlds. This included Narnia and we looked at the Queen. We also looked at the Snow Queen.
When we were told an artist was coming in to work with us we felt excited and looked forward to working with her. The artist's name was Cerys.
Over a number of days she worked with both 4M and 4S. First we drew pictures of the characters we had been looking at in Literacy, either the Queen of Narnia, Azlan the Lion, Mr Tumnas the faun or the Snow Queen. Next we made our characters out of clay. We used different materials to decorate them and make them look more like the characters.
After that Cerys brought in some tall, thin sticks. We all wondered what we were going to do with them.We found outthe sticks were called withies and were from a willow tree. Cerys told us we were going to make either the Snow Queen or the Queen of Narnia. We all thought, how are we going to make a queen out of all these sticks.
We set to work using masking tape to stick the withies together and soon we saw the queen taking shape. We felt amazed that we were making a queen out of withies. We were nervous thinking it might not turn out right and proud that we had made this model out of a pile of withies.
Then we got some special tissue paper and glued it with PVA glue onto our Queen. Next we made snowflakes out of white paper and foil. We decorated CD's to make them look like snowflakes. After that Matthieu,Mustafa,Sana and I made a crown and a wand out of withies. We decorated the crown and wand with sparkling foil material and made a star out of card. We dressed the queen with all the snowflakes we had made, Aneesa, Mariam and Sana made jewellery for her to wear.
Finally when we had finished nobody could decide if our Queen was the Queen of Narnia or the Snow Queen. So we all agreed that she was a bit of both.
