Welcome to Hill 5! Miss Gregory is delighted to welcome you to an exciting year of learning, growth, and discovery. In Hill 5, we are passionate about making learning come alive for every child by providing purposeful and memorable experiences that spark curiosity and inspire future aspirations. Our goal is to equip all Year 5 children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive academically and personally, preparing them to make a positive contribution to modern-day Britain. Through our engaging ‘WONDER’ curriculum, we aim to nurture a lifelong love for learning, helping children to remember and build upon their knowledge over time. We believe that education is a partnership, and we look forward to working closely with parents and carers to ensure every child reaches their full potential. At Spring Hill Primary School, our RAISE values — Respect, Aspiration, Inclusivity, Service, and Empowerment — are at the heart of everything we do, guiding us to create a caring, ambitious, and inclusive community where every child can truly shine. We hope you enjoy our learning journey!
Our class novel this half term (Spring 2) is:
Year 5 Book Spine Challenge!
'Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah.
We believe that reading is the key to success. As part of our reading for pleasure initiative, the children are encouraged to read all of the books on our Year 5 reading spine before the end of the year.
Summer 1 Spellings - Please ensure your child/children practice these on Emile 3x per week. They will also bring a sheet home which looks like the one below so that they are able to practice spellings with paper and pen if technology is not accessible at home.

Our Writing Task:
We will write a fantasy story inspired by the model text, using suspense and detailed description to make it exciting.
Independent Writing:
We will write our own fantasy story, choosing our own characters, setting, and plot while using suspense to hook the reader.
