RE - Islam Spring One
In RE, we were learning about the Islamic pilgrimage to Hajj. We learned the steps of this sacred journey, the history behind them and the religious significance.
We held a mini Hajj in school, where we completed activities similar to those that are completed during Hajj. Each child had to find information and complete a Hajj passport.
We also drew maps of the journey of Hajj.
For World Book Day, we were fortunate enough to have the former Spring Hill teacher, Peter Scholes, as our guest author.
We found out about being an author and asked him lots of questions.
Mr Scholes set a challenge Years 5 & 6, to create a new character for his children's book series. We're waiting with our fingers crossed to see if we win!
Our latest Class Novel will be ...
Synopsis of Wonder by R.J. Palacio
'My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.'
Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.
Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he's being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?
Homework, Reading and Spellings
Your child has a login for Emile. They will be set Maths, Spelling and Times Tables homework on this weekly.
We have also sent a hard copy of spellings home. Your child will be tested on their spelling words every Thursday.
Please ensure you read with your child every day, recording this in your child’s reading record.
