Hello and welcome to Spring R's class page! We are so pleased to welcome you here.
My name is Miss Waite and I am the class teacher of Spring R. We also have Mrs Younis who is our fabulous Assistant teacher.
Spring Term Here We Come!
We’re so excited to welcome our Reception children back for a new term full of curiosity, creativity, and fun!
We’ll be diving into topics such as:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: In Reception, children will continue building positive relationships, managing their feelings, and developing confidence and independence. They will learn to take turns, follow routines, and show kindness and respect to others.
Communication and Language: Our children will be developing their skills by listening carefully, taking turns in conversations, and expressing their ideas clearly. They will enjoy sharing stories, asking questions, and building confidence in speaking in both group and play-based activities.
Physical Development: We will be exploring space through a variety of 'out of this world' activities that develop our fundamental skills such as throwing, rolling and changing directions at speed to avoid obstacles.
Literacy: We will be reading the story 'The Gingerbread Man' in which the children will immerse themselves in the story through role play and gingerbread making and baking. We will be focusing on writing CVC words and putting these words into short captions and simple sentences using finger spaces. Our children will partake in daily phonics sessions to build on and develop their phonics knowledge.
Mathematics: In Maths, our children will use their prior learning to add numbers up to 5 and 10 using a variety of resources such as tens frames and part whole models. We will begin understanding the concept of numbers bonds and number patterns and explore how to measure length, height and capacity.
Understanding the World: We will learn about places that are special to different religions and begin to understand the similarities and differences between religious communities. Our children will learn and discuss who is special to them and how these people help them. We will be scientists exploring and investigating the different seasons, freezing and melting and lightness and darkness.
Expressive Arts and Design: Creating self-portraits, experimenting with colour and texture, and enjoying music and movement.
We’ll also be spending lots of time outdoors, observing changes in nature and using our environment to inspire learning.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic term together!

Homework:
Homework will be sent home with your child every Friday, this needs to be returned to their class teacher on the following Monday.
Your child has a phonics sounds sheet, green reading words and a reading book in their homework pack, it is encouraged that your child practises reading these words and their book at home daily to build on their confidence.
We also encourage children to practise writing letters and numbers correctly at home with a big focus on writing their name. When your child writes their name please encourage them to begin with a capital letter, followed by lower case letters. We do not teach children to write in full capitals.
